Company History

Establishment

D&N Business Consulting Co., Ltd. was established under the encouragement and support of a group of employees of Philips Taiwan and the professors and consultants who had participated in the sustaining efforts of the company in challenging the Deming Application Prize and Japan Quality Medal (referred to as N-Prize*) of Japan. As such, we have adopted the first letters of the two renowned Japanese quality prizes, D and N, as our company name.

— Purpose of Our Company

  • 01To assemble and transfer TQM Paradigm.
  • 02To continue creating effective and easy-to-understand TQM paradigms in cooperation with domestic and overseas enterprises, organizations, scholars and experts.
  • 03To gather and nurture more young talents for the cause of enhancing and propagating TQM approaches, so as to assist interested organizations in cutting short the periods of their groping for and learning the TQM approaches and efficiently enhancing their management efficiency and core competence.
  • 04Set up / maintain platform for TQM managers to pursue for personal mastery via team learning.

*(The Japan Quality Medal is open for challenge only to the companies that have won the Deming Application Prize and continued to practice TQM for at least five years. Not until 1997 when the first non-Japanese company, Philips Taiwan, applied to challenge the Medal was there English application documents available for this higher quality award. Before then, its unofficial English name was "Nihon Quality Control Prize," a literal translation from the Japanese, and it was generally referred to as "N-Prize" for brevity. The "Japan Quality Medal" was adopted as the official English name in 1997 when Philips Taiwan applied to challenge it-and successfully won it in the following year.)

1986 - 1990
- Philips Starts Quality Improvement Drive Worldwide
- Philips Taiwan Declares to Challenge the Deming Prize of Japan in 5 Years, and:
  • Sets up Company-Wide Quality Improvement (CWQI) Promotion Committee at the head office
  • Sets up CWQI Office at the head office (Mr. M.S. Tu joined it in 1988)
  • Every division sets up CWQI Executive Committee
  • Every division establishes CWQI Office
  • CWQI education & training started at every site
  • Invites Japanese consultants to provide guidance
  • Japanese consultants accompany top management in conducting on-site “diagnosis” at every factory
1990 - 1995
  • Applied to challenge Deming Prize - 1990
